Ruston

Watch this video on how we start the Ruston diesel engine. Using compressed air the engine is turned whilst the cylinder head is heated using a blow lamp. Once hot enough the diesel fuel is admitted and the cylinder closed to allow compression. The pressure and heat ignites the diesel air mixture which expands to move the piston and exhausts the burnt fuel. The rotating flywheel provides the momentum to recompress the air-fuel mix for the next stroke of this single cylinder engine.
