Afternoon Lecture: The Industrial Revolution in the East Midlands

Thursday, 13 June 2019 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

As part of Heritage Open Days 2019, we’re hosting an afternoon lecture all about the industrial revolution in Nottingham and beyond. Our volunteer Colin will  describe the history of the East Midlands knitting and lace industries from 1750 to 1850, and how they impacted our amazing city.

We’ll demonstrate how these industries became major employers in the East Midlands, especially in Nottingham and Leicester. The talk is illustrated by a discussions around actual machinery in our Lace Gallery. We’ll also include a demonstration of a Leavers Lace Machine, one of the main machines used in Nottingham’s lace industry. The talk also describes aspects of the related social history of the times.

This event is absolutely FREE as part of Heritage Open Days 2019. Why not arrive early and visit our other galleries beforehand?
